It stayed unpainted for a long time, about a year or more. I was coming out of an art block and I kept thinking of transformation and the relationship between water beings and land beings. Spending time in Nuu Chah Nulth territory I have been inspired by many histories and ways of being, one of them is the description of the killer whale to wolf, or vice versa, the saying that they transform from time to time. I like that saying 'from time to time,' and I kept thinking about how we need to grow into something new, from time to time. Allow ourselves to go through growing pains, and learn to walk or swim again."
